North Hero-Grand Isle Drawbridge Construction Update – 10/8

TRAFFIC IMPACT: US Route 2 at the temporary drawbridge is open to two lanes of traffic. The contractor will be working from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. There will be no work on Saturday this week.
The temporary bridge has a speed limit of 25 mph. There are tight curves approaching the temporary bridge, and trucks are advised to reduce speed to 15 mph. Bicycles should use caution while crossing the bridge.
The work zone speed limit is enforced, and individuals have been ticketed for excessive speeding. Obeying the speed limit is extremely important for everyone’s safety.
NOTICE TO MARINERS: The drawbridge has resumed its daily operating schedule, opening at the top of the hour between 8 AM and 8 PM. Smaller vessels are able to pass between openings. The channel width will remain at 40 feet at all times. All mariners must pass with extreme caution and NO WAKE.
To request an opening or to communicate with the bridge tender, please use Channel 13 or 802-372-4360. The bridge tender will be available daily between 8 AM and 8PM.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: The contractor will continue excavating the cofferdam with the crane and clam bucket through next week on the east side of the existing bridge. This work is cleaning and preparing the ledge surfaces for a concrete pour toward the end of October.
On the west side of the existing bridge, the contractor is demolishing the last remaining pier near the shore. This work will continue through next week.
As part of Governor Scott’s “Work Smart, Stay Safe” order, all construction crews are currently subject to safety restrictions and precautions.
