North Hero-Grand Isle Drawbridge Construction Update – 2/21/2019

Vehicular Traffic Impacts: US Route 2 at the drawbridge is open to two-lane two-way traffic. There are flaggers onsite to assist with construction trucks entering and exiting the work zone. The contractor plans to work 8.5-hour days, Monday through Sunday. The work zone speed limit is enforced, and individuals have been ticketed for excessive speeding. Obeying the speed limit is extremely important for everyone’s safety.

 

Notice to Mariners: The navigation channel through the bridge will be closed to all vessel traffic from December 5, 2018 through April 13, 2019. The full notice is here on the project website.

 

Planned Construction Activities: The contractor will continue installing the fender system and driving battered steel piles on the west approach. Some of the connections for the fender system are near and under the water level so there are divers on site to assist. The contractor will continue installing steel for the substructure of the movable span on the east approach. The substructure of a bridge is the supporting structure. The picture below shows the temporary bridge construction:
