North Hero-Grand Isle Drawbridge Construction Update – 12/5/2019

Vehicular Traffic Impacts: US Route 2 at the temporary drawbridge is open to two lanes of traffic. Please expect intermittent stops and releases of traffic by flaggers to allow for construction vehicles to enter the work zone. The contractor is working Monday through Thursday 7 AM to 6PM. They are working 7AM to 1PM on Fridays.

The temporary bridge has a speed limit of 25mph. There are tight curves approaching the temporary bridge, and trucks are advised to reduce speed to 15mph. Bicycles should use caution while crossing the bridge.
The work zone speed limit is enforced, and individuals have been ticketed for excessive speeding. Obeying the speed limit is extremely important for everyone’s safety.

Notice to Mariners: The hourly opening season for the temporary drawbridge ended on 10/15. Smaller vessels are reminded to be aware of the Coast Guard Safety Zone.

Construction Activities: The contractor is continuing to install pipe piles around the eastern pier of the existing bridge. They have welded and driven 9 out of the 12 pipe piles. This work will continue through next week. They have continued demolition of the existing drawbridge’s western bridge span.
