North Hero-Grand Isle Drawbridge Construction Update – 4/4/2019

Vehicular Traffic Impacts: US Route 2 at the drawbridge is open to two-lane two-way traffic. Occasional lane closures along US Route 2 will continue through next week. The contractor will be working from 6:30 AM through 5:00 PM, Monday through Saturday with occasional work on Sundays. The work zone speed limit is enforced, and individuals have been ticketed for excessive speeding. Obeying the speed limit is extremely important for everyone’s safety.

Notice to Mariners: The navigation channel through the bridge will be closed to all vessel traffic from December 5, 2018 through April 13, 2019. The full notice is here on the project website.

Planned Construction Activities: The contractor has begun assembling the Acrow bridge, which spans the gap over the channel between the two approach trestles. The 70 foot Acrow backspan has been installed (this section is stationary). The contractor will soon begin assembling the 61 foot movable span of the Acrow bridge from the west approach. Additional work onsite includes placing the permanent timber decking and continuing work on the temporary fender system. The picture below shows the Acrow backspan installed (the galvanized truss):
